Our Model

We established the venture philanthropy model to Build Trust through Transparency.
At EPICS, our approach is characterized by:
  • Willingness to experiment and try new approaches.
  • Focusing on measurable results: donors and grantees assess progress based on mutually determined benchmarks.
  • Readiness to allocate funds between the twin-goals of education and healthcare.
  • Providing financial, infrastructural and human capital.
  • Funding on a multi-year basis - typically a minimum of 3 years, on average 5-7 years.

Venture Philanthropy model: We are a non-profit organization committed towards enhancing accountability and transparency among the non-profit social enterprises and NGOs through good governance.

A Harvard Business Review article titled ?Virtuous Capital: What Foundations Can Learn from Venture Capitalists? by Christine W. Letts, William Ryan, Allen Grossman states:

?Foundations and nonprofits work diligently on behalf of society's most needy and yet report that progress is slow and social problems persist. How can they learn to be more effective with their limited resources? Foundations should consider expanding their mission from investing only in program innovation to investing in the organizational needs of nonprofit organizations as well. Their overemphasis on program design has meant deteriorating organizational capacity at many nonprofits. If foundations are to help nonprofits be assured of making payroll, paying the rent, or buying a much-needed computer, they must develop hands-on partnering skills. Venture capital firms offer a helpful benchmark. In addition to putting up capital, they closely monitor the companies in which they have invested, provide management support, and stay involved long enough to see the company become strong.?

Since most of us come from venture capital, private equity, investment banking and finance backgrounds, we felt the ?venture philanthropy? model we have chosen for EPICS complements our professional skill sets and also helps us in making optimum contributions towards the cause of improving lives of impoverished children.
